Natalia Vodianova: From Russian Streets to Global Runways and Philanthropy

Early Life and Humble Beginnings

Natalia Mikhailovna Vodianova was born on February 28, 1982, in Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod), Russia. Raised in a low-income neighborhood, she lived with her mother, Larisa, and two younger half-sisters, one of whom, Oksana, has cerebral palsy and autism. From a young age, Natalia contributed to the family's income by selling fruit on the streets, showcasing her resilience and determination.

Modeling Career: Rise to International Fame

At 15, Natalia enrolled in a local modeling academy, and by 17, she moved to Paris after signing with Viva Model Management. Her breakthrough came with a contract for Calvin Klein's Spring/Summer 2003 campaign, leading to an exclusive deal in 2004. Over the years, she has graced the covers of numerous international fashion magazines and worked with brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, and L'Oréal.

Philanthropy: Naked Heart Foundation and Beyond

In 2004, inspired by the Beslan school siege, Natalia founded the Naked Heart Foundation, aiming to provide safe play environments for children and support families raising children with special needs. The foundation has built over 158 inclusive play parks across Russia and launched programs like "Every Child Deserves a Family" to support families of children with disabilities.

Natalia's philanthropic efforts extend globally. She serves on the Special Olympics International Board of Directors and, in 2021, was appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), focusing on women's health and reproductive rights.

Personal Life

Natalia has five children. She was previously married to British aristocrat Justin Portman, with whom she has three children. Since 2011, she has been in a relationship with Antoine Arnault, son of LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault. The couple married in 2020 and have two children together.

Natalia Vodianova's journey from a challenging childhood in Russia to international supermodel and dedicated philanthropist exemplifies resilience and a commitment to making a positive impact on society.
